A Message from Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C. – Notre Dame Elects Provost

April 12, 2022

Dear Members of the Notre Dame Community,

I am very pleased to announce that the University's Board of Trustees has elected John McGreevy as the Charles and Jill Fischer Provost of the University. John is the Francis A. McAnaney Professor of History, and formerly chair of the Department of History (2002-2008) and the I.A. O'Shaughnessy Dean of the College of Arts and Letters (2008-2018). The Board's election was based upon my recommendation and was informed by the assessment of the search committee.

I want to thank the excellent search committee who worked hard to assess a pool of candidates that was large, diverse, and distinguished. It included individuals with experience as deans and provosts and candidates who hailed from nearly half of the U.S. News & World Report top 25 universities. Sixty percent of the candidates interviewed were women or people of color. The search committee put in many hours, brought a variety of perspectives to the conversation, worked well together and all sought what was best for the University.

Please join me in thanking the search committee, congratulating our new provost, and working together to serve the University.

In Notre Dame,
Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C.
President
