A Message from Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C. - Provost Listening Sessions
September 19, 2019
Dear Faculty Colleagues,
In my recent email to campus about the Provost Search Committee (https://president.nd.edu/homilies-writings-addresses/a-message-from-fr-jenkins---provost-search-committee/), I wrote that we would organize a series of listening sessions to inform our thinking about the qualities we should seek in the next Provost of Notre Dame. Below you will find a schedule of the listening sessions, which both the members of the committee and I will attend. While you may find it most convenient to attend the session in your college or school, you are welcome to attend any listening session listed below as your schedule allows.
After we conclude these sessions, we will, with the benefit of what we have heard, prepare a position prospectus describing the nature of the opportunity and the qualities we are seeking in a candidate. This document will be shared with both prospective candidates and those we ask for recommendations.
So that we might use wisely the time allotted for the listening sessions, the committee has developed the following questions to frame each listening session:
1. What are some of the most important recent accomplishments at the University that should be highlighted for candidates?
2. What are the central opportunities and challenges that will be on the plate of the Provost in the next 5 years?
3. What are the essential qualities and skills that the next Provost will need in order to be successful at Notre Dame?
We will extend a separate invitation to the administrators and staff in the various colleges to join us for these listening sessions, and we will also host two separate sessions for students, one for undergraduates and one for post-baccalaureate students.
If you would like to share your thoughts in writing about these questions or if you wish to offer a name in nomination, you can do so via a special e-mailbox we have established for this purpose: presprovostsearch@nd.edu.
Should you wish to offer a name in nomination confidentially, you can do so by emailing our search consultant, Lisa Prigohzy-Milius at: nd-provost@presidiosearch.com.
I look forward to seeing you at one of these sessions and to hearing your thoughts.
Sincerely,
Rev. John Jenkins, C.S.C.
