A Letter to the Notre Dame Community from Rev. Robert A. Dowd, C.S.C.

Dear Members of the Notre Dame Community,

Whether you are on campus or spending these days elsewhere, I hope you are enjoying the start of summer.

As you may know, I began serving as Notre Dame’s president on June 1. I am deeply grateful for the support and encouragement I have received from so many of you since I was elected president by the University’s Board of Trustees in December. I am especially grateful to my mentor, friend, and brother in Holy Cross, Fr. John Jenkins, for his tremendous leadership of the University over the past 19 years and for his unfailing support and wise counsel as I begin my presidency. I have also benefited from the wisdom and insights of Fr. Edward “Monk” Malloy, C.S.C., who was Fr. Jenkins’s predecessor.

Let us commit to working together to build a Notre Dame that is ever more that force for good that Fr. Sorin envisioned at our founding, building on the great momentum of the past decades. The dedication and commitment to Notre Dame’s distinctive mission of our faculty, students, staff, and administrators are an inspiration to me. I look forward to greeting you in person in the coming months, and to working with you to realize the opportunities ahead. Until then, know that you and your loved ones are in my prayers.

Sincerely Yours in Notre Dame,

Rev. Robert A. Dowd, C.S.C.
President
