A Message from Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C. - Opening of the Academic Year Mass

August 5, 2020

Dear Notre Dame Faculty and Staff,

I invite you to participate virtually in the Opening of the Academic Year Mass we will celebrate on Sunday, August 9 at 7 p.m. from Notre Dame Stadium. As we do each fall, please join us as we gather together to pray for God’s abundant blessings in the year ahead. You can join us here.

As many of you know, we traditionally gather in-person for this special Mass and for a picnic that follows, which brings together students, faculty, staff and their families. Given current health and safety requirements in this time of the pandemic, we will not gather the entire community in-person as is our custom. Instead, this year we have invited those students who wish to join us in-person for Mass in the Stadium to reserve a seat (distanced, ticketed seating and masks are required) while those students who prefer to join remotely—as well as you, our faculty and staff members—are warmly invited to participate virtually.

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding in this year of adaptation. I hope you can join us on Sunday evening. Know of my profound gratitude for all you are doing as we launch the fall semester in these challenging times. You and your loved ones are always in my prayers.

In Notre Dame,

Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C.
President
