Vision and Goals
In an effort to achieve its overall aspiration of becoming a preeminent research university with a distinctive Catholic mission and an unsurpassed undergraduate education, the University of Notre Dame strives to meet five institutional goals:
- Offer an unsurpassed undergraduate education
- Become a pre-eminent research university
- Ensure that the University’s Catholic character informs all its endeavors
- Create a sustainable culture of continuous improvement and service excellence to support the University’s mission
- Communicate strategically to internal and external constituents
To lead and accelerate progress toward the University goals, Leadership Committees consisting of members of the Officer Group and Deans Council were formed in January 2007 and assigned to the respective goals. These committees are forums designed to generate innovative discussion and thinking, identify present and potential areas of improvement, and coordinate initiatives and efforts associated with the goals. The role of the committees is not to insert another layer of oversight or administration into existing university governance structures; instead, the groups are specifically responsible for assessing the cumulative impact of all of the University’s existing efforts associated with each goal, benchmarking progress against measurable indicators, and determining whether additional efforts are needed to help Notre Dame achieve its goals.
